2005 Annual Ball - Pipe Major's report

Fred HockingWell what a great night it was. Saturday October 22nd 2005 and the crowds flocked to the Harvey Lowe Pavilion at the Castle Hill Showgrounds to hear the pipes and drums of the Hills District Pipe Band.

The weather was good. The piping was crisp and the drums had a stamp of authority. The bands routine left the audience hungry for more Scottish spirit and/or the smorgasbord dinner that followed.

Support received from retired Pipe Major Alex Burns who piped in the Haggis was much appreciated.

Dianne Harrison and her group of Highland Dancers provided a pleasant interlude after dinner.

Thanks to all the pipers. A record year for the band with 12 of our own pipers playing on the night. Thank you to our Drum Major Neil Reid for his leadership and to all the drummers. For all who performed for the first time at the Ball well done. Start practicing for next year.

For 2006 we have been asked to consider bringing the ball forward a month. A September 06 ball to coincide with the Castle Hill Orange Blossom festival. Also a possible new venue – The Hills Centre to cater for the ever increasing attendance. Watch this space as we will keep you updated on developments. Look forward to seeing you all again next year.
