Hills District Pipe Band wins the Toukley Cup
Just a word of thanks to everyone for the tremendous effort put in to achieve success with the above on Saturday.
No the Toukley Cup is not a horse race for eight year old maidens - its the cup we won on Saturday for being the best Pipe Band on the park. the best of eight.
A particular thanks to Neil who with myself put considerable time and effort into selecting the tunes we played. This extended to making some last minute changes as we practiced under the tree only minutes before going onto the park. I am left wondering whether we should now make this routine the basis of our routine for the upcoming balls.
Secondly thanks to John Post who struggled with an "ugly" reed during tune up, under the gum tree again, and was finally able to extract a sweet melody from this reed only five minutes later as we performed on the park. I understand John that you discarded that reed immediately after the performance. Any chance of getting it back.
Also there was the calmness that prevailed when just as we were about to go on Fraser thought he'd lost his car keys. I might add, only to find John Post had them in his pocket.
And thanks Richard for coming up and being there. Paul needs to be more reliable in delivering Plaid Pins.
Linden your words of support by telephone from the ski fields lifted Peters playing level.
And the drummers overall a great sound. Once I coaxed Peter closer. I hope you all made it home safely from the celebrations in Gosford.
Finally there is word of a Toukley cup being engraved and presented to us later in the year. Apparently it was too big and heavy to lift onto the stage but I believe it could be an ideal centre point at practice each Tuesday night as we refocus our efforts for the gigs ahead. If anyone is going to be in Toukley over the next few weeks could they please let me know so that I can arrange for them to pick up this cup and have at Tuesday nights practice asap.
Thanks again to everyone for your efforts.
Regards,
Fraser L. Smith
