The Drummers

Drum Major Neil Reid
Most memorable event: While every event is enjoyable there are three events that stick out in my mind as being more enjoyable than others. Those three events are Anzac day starting with the Dawn Service at the Cenotaph in Martin place following by the street march, mass bands then finishing up in Glenorie for their afternoon service. Bundanoon highland games held early on in the year and Aberdeen highland games held mid winter.
What I get most out of the band: The camaraderie and friendship with people from diverse backgrounds. Serving the Community in such a satisfying manner. The Band is a Community based organization and whilst we are always striving for excellence in both playing, drill and appearance, we don't put ourselves under any pressure by competing in competitions.
We are a cohesive and self supporting team and I receive a great deal of pleasure serving with such a group of unstintingly devoted people, to the Band and its aims and to each other.

Drum Sergeant Fred Hocking (Side drum)
Most memorable event: Anzac day is definitely my favourite event.
What I get most out of the band: The thing I enjoy most is the friendship I share with the other band members

Drum Sergeant Peter Moroney (Side drum)
Most memorable event: My favourite event is playing at the Dawn Service on Anzac Day.
What I get most out of the band: I like the challenge of playing both individually and as a band and the fact that unlike many pipe bands we are harmony both musically and personally. The thing I find most important however is that we are growing in musicianship as well as in numbers.

Ross Colville (Side drum)
What I get most out of the band: In 1959 I joined Lakemba Caledonian pipe band as a learner drummer. Over the past 45 years I have been with several different bands.. It's a great thrill to greet many of the friends I have made over this period through my association with the bands and the Scottish social scene.

Judy Bowan (Tenor drum)
Most memorable event: Anzac Day- taking part in such a significant national holiday is very special; the atmosphere at the Dawn Service in Martin Place, Sydney, is so powerful. Highland Gatherings are also a lot of fun.
What I get most out of the band: I enjoy being part of a group playng music together-it's great, as is the enjoyment of listeners at the community events where we play; the willingness of experienced players to share their knowledge; the feeling of being part of a tradition; the Music!

David Svanetti (Bass Drum)
Most memorable event: Being only a recent member, Anzac Day was my first "gig". Dawn service at the Cenotaph in Martin Place was truly moving. The massed Pipe and Drums was great fun too!!
What I get most out of the band: The thing I get most out of playing in the band is that the band is a great bunch of people. They make you feel part of the band from the outset.
